Carolina Storm is a gaming & esports organization headquartered in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina. Our community focused org consists of competitive teams, content creators and local events.

Caleb Smith Owner

Caleb Smith has been a lifelong gamer and athlete. His competitiveness led to him playing soccer overseas in Germany. Having years of experience in both competing and coaching in the traditional sports world, Caleb saw the importance of youth development and character building. Due to his love for video games, he wanted to offer in video gaming what was offered in traditional sports. Caleb had a mission to be a trailblazer in the industry and revolutionize esports though youth development and esports education. He truly believes in helping others and that he can grow and develop life skills in young people while destigmatizing gaming. Caleb was a 2022 Triangle Business Journal 40 under 40 winner and a Forbes 30 under 30 winner for the education category. Caleb always wanted to own a competitive esports org and is now fulfilling that through Carolina Storm.

Matt Churchill General Manager

Matt Churchill has always had a passion for both video games and teaching. His love for gaming began in middle school, where he and his friends would gather at each other’s houses to play Halo custom games. As he grew older, his interest in teaching developed through teaching scuba diving and marine science.
During his college years at Misericordia University, Matt played a key role in founding both the men’s volleyball team and the university’s esports program. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, he decided to further his passion for education by pursuing a Master’s in Education.
While completing his master’s degree, Matt became the Head Esports Coach for Misericordia’s League of Legends and Hearthstone teams. Under his leadership, the Hearthstone team won the 2022 NECC National Championship, and his League of Legends team secured back-to-back division championships in the spring of 2022 and 2023.

Fortnite Academy Team

Our academy team for Fortnite competes in the FNCS and the Amateur Esports Association. They had an impressive run in the fall of 2024 placing first place in the regular season and second place in the playoffs.
